Violence in the School, Who is be sinful?

Solidarity is accessory to hide rottenness, even solidarity as an effort together to protect dishonest each other (Kompas, 16/11). It is critical though of St. Kartono poured out in “The Case of Violence in the School” in receiving a problem of violence in the school, especially the case of SMA 34 Pondok Labu and SMA Pangudi Luhur South Jakarta.

Actually need not surprise with the mentality because solidarity has been trend in society. Children learn from the adult and their neighborhood. Negative solidarity can be seen and modeled by children in solidarity behavior haphazardly of officials in corruption, collusion, and nepotism. Becoming honest people will be dissolved. It is very ironic.

At the time solidarity has spread to education realm, with borrow the title of Andrias Harefa’s book so it is the great “successful” of our children “Become Learner Human.” Even our education realm is proper to get the award from University of Chicago because it had applied Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) like Elaine B. Johnson. Children solidarity is very contextual and related to solidarity of nation loser. The satire should arouse our lustrous.

School = Court

When children in the school acted not appropriate to though pattern of adult, people accuse them naughty easily. When children got the bad mark, people say sarcastically that they are stupid. It is horrifying, is not it? Learning from Dorothy Law Notle, if children life in condition full of critic, they will study to blame.

At the time children’s naughty or criminality seems real, personal frame of children become scapegoat for all their behaviors. It is considered immoral even submit the case to police. Like in St. Kartono’s writing, importance of sanction which has cured effect to children make violence is returning to their parents or giving them to police.

The school is already to be court. Unfortunately, the school’s court only process the result emerged of a case while the motive of case can emerge is not tried. Pupil becomes the victim of brutality of apparent education justice system.


Apparent Cured of Habit

Joshua in Ekskul film is dead of broken heart by shooting a gun to his head. Joshua became victim of headmaster, teacher, parents, and friends’ violence. Is that a meaning of cured of habit? The other student will be cured of habit if he/ she is naughty. The major problem is not problem of dividing area between school and police or law apparatus.

Actually assistance problem by teacher and parents to children become important matter. The students need friend to talk and share their problem, not people as if intelligence and advice continuously like many parents and teachers do. While the student become naughty, brutal, and anarchy, it is not 100% their guilty, exactly the teachers and parents play also role in there.


Mental Violence

Actually mental violence has been done by teacher and parents to the students do violence and experience the violence. All violence behaviors done by the students are reflection of low assistance and care of teacher and parents. In other side, the student’s suffering and misery that gets ill treatment and oppression by the friend is reflection of no attention and less sensitiveness of teacher and parents to their fate. Is law apparatus ready to process?

Eventually, I agree with St. Kartono conceptually that people who have authority to educate is teacher, not senior student. And the headmaster has great role to stop violence tradition in the school. Only on contrary, not student who become object of the concept but teacher and headmaster’s violence itself even the parent too. They should be able to educate themselves with aware and stop mental violence they has been done. Stop violence tradition of teacher, headmaster, and parent!
